[P]  All night awake

He was up late tonight, the cold of the winter kept him stirring restlessly he didn't like the cold, it made him uncomfortable; much better suited for the heat of summer the man huffed a plume of smoke billowing from dark nostrils. He shifted finally making himself rise from where he lay, rolling up using his four front limbs to pull his massive frame up from the earth bits of soil still clinging to the longer pieces of gold fur that draped from the back of his front legs, bits of it also caught in the braids that were finely weaved on his chin and cheeks. He didn't fuss with them right this moment, tail of soot trailing behind as he drew from the confines of the grass until his paws found cold stone. He paused, judgmental eyes dropping to the land under his feet which was turning from cold icy grass into slick frozen rock dusted in snow. Even the shore got held in winters grasp.

Akarui frowned before he pressed onward, trying to be careful with his steps, too tired to bother calling upon his magick to heat the earth under his paws, and he slipped a time or two as a result. Awkwardly trying to catch himself as one leg would slide in an uncomfortable fashion. He'd grunt and get himself back under a more manageable stance before carrying on.

He continued like this until he found the edge of the shore, where the salty water lapped upon the rocks, in the distance there were large formations of rock and dirt, upon them a few trees even decided to grow. Other than the sound of the crashing waves the night was still, a clear sky full of glistening stars and the bright cast of the moon hovering in the distance illuminating the night. The setting was almost too serene, if only he could feel for such a thing. After a time of observing the horizon the prince lowered himself upon his haunches perched up on a rock where he could remain close to the water but for the most part avoid having his drench his paws. Large head angled over the top of the water, peering into the glistening waves. What would become of him without his kingdom, without his people? It felt wrong to start over without them, although maybe he needed to anyway.

All her life Winnie had thought we was a fish. She didn't know any better and she never felt out of place either. She was born with the ability to breath underwater so none of it felt awkward at all to her. She could easily catch fish for her dinner and thought nothing of the life above the water's surface. It wasn't until she was swimming around this particular rocky area that she noticed the glistening orange and gold glow settling itself right above the surface just off the shore of what she assumed the edge of the ocean. It was beautiful and shiny to her, attracting her to it as easily as a moth to a flame. Quickly she wiggled her body and shot to the surface of the water. Winnie halted though just underneath and water line. She'd never gone to the surface before, would the shiny thing attack her? She looked through the bubbles formed by the waves hitting the rocks and got caught by the gaze of the stranger. Her heart seemed to leap out of her chest he looked like her.. Somewhat.. He had a nose, ears and those eyes.. They were all like her own.

Slowly she rose out of the water trying to get a better view of the stranger. Her heart was hammering in her chest but her bravery showed no bounds. Her fur and fin seemed to absorb all the water from her torso up when she did this but it still had that glossy shine. Her eyes studied the creature with so much curiosity. He was beautiful, sparkly, and shiny. Her thoughts wandered into the idea that maybe she could take some of his fur and glue it to herself. She then could be shiny too.

Quickly her thoughts came back to the stranger and she twisted her head to the side. Did she know how to speak to him? Did she even have a voice? she wondered and opened her muzzle trying to say something, anything at all. What came out was a bunch of gargled speech until finally a few words seemed to shift into place and fall out of her mouth. "You are very shiny." Her voice sounded very patchy and rough but still do-able. She waited patiently in the water floating and watching his every move with the most excitement she's had in a long time.

From the water came...something. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, it looked wolf, mostly anyway face painted in sky blue and white. But upon the creatures back a fin broke from her spine, weaving all the way down her center to the very tip of her tail. Akarui drew back as she from the water, she didn't say anything, seeming to observe him with fascination as he was likely rebutting the same stare. Except his came in more of a matter of concern and irritation at her upfront approach than true curiosity. His golden ears flicked back curving around the large spikes that grew from his forehead. Her voice came slowly, like a child testing it for the first time.

"You are very shiny."

He was very what? His frown would deepen, "I think you misunderstand the definition of shiny" he grumbled. Pondering the colors that splashed upon his own pelt, the only bit he knew to be particularly shiny were the bands that wrapped around his braids. "You're very blue" he stated simply, brows knitting together "Were your parents both wolves or was one a fish? I'm certain my father was more dragon himself," he rumbled, his eyes shifting upwards in thought as he wondered on the possibility. Between his dads temper and the real fire that spewed from his gaping jaws that Akarui had inherited it made sense.

Unsure of what he meant by his first phrase she let it roll off of her like a droplet of water. His second statement though caught her by surprise and that same emotion flooded her face. She didn't hold back a single bit of the expression so it looked a bit dramatic or overacted. Her mind pulled back from the present and tried to remember the past. She remembered rolling waves and colorful fish. She remembered yellow sand and the red coral that scraped at her pelt. She even remembered looking at herself in the reflection of a swordfish's scales and thinking how odd a fish she was but she never remembered anything that resembled another thing like her except the male in front of her. While her memories were being sorted and filed away trying to find the answer to his question, her head seemed to decline down and her eyes sank to the water's surface. She had no family.

She remembered him sitting there and looked up with a somewhat pathetic glance. She spoke but with her muzzle being underwater all that came out were bubbles. With an almost panicked expression Winnie's head popped out of the water and stared at the water dripping from her nose. A bit of frustration danced over her features but it was gone as quickly as it came. "I don't think so." She muttered still looking at her nose as if that answered his question. She then looked back up at him and asked something very simple but showed how odd and naive she truly was. "What's a dragon?" She mused and stared at the male with a goofy smile on her face. She was kind of eager looking to find the answer but she was a bit ditsy looking as well.

He couldn't help the satisfaction that flushed his face at her dramatic expression, the slightest bit of a smirk playing on the corners of his lips. Golden audits knitting tightly to the top of his crown as he studied her, she was far more expressive than himself in almost every fashion, she didn't try to hide the feelings that swirled around inside. But it was how he was raised, showing emotion was a sign of weakness in his fathers eyes. It was something embedded into him; and he wasn't sure he'd ever be able to shake that, or even want to for that matter. Eyes of fire fell back upon her, catching her movement as she sunk back down into the water a ways, and he felt no pity or guilt for making her feel bad if he had. Raising a single brow as she blew bubbles under the waters surface and began to panic, she sure was a flustered thing wasn't she?

"I don't think so." she answered after rising her head back above the water so he could catch the words this time. Hm. He could press the matter continue to tease her, but he wasn't a bully, he just wanted to make a point. He didn't take kindly to being called shiny, and she didn't like being called part fish."What's a dragon?" she asked then, Akarui crinkled his nose, eyes shifting up to the sky, almost picturing them, their massive wings carrying them above the clouds. "They're massive beasts" he began, lowering himself down onto his belly then to get more comfortable. "Scaled, with huge wings like bats, and they breath fire, they can lay waste to entire packs in mere minutes" he explained, keeping his gaze upon the horizon until he finished, then he let his eyes flicker back to her, curious what she would think of the creatures, or if she even knew what half of what he was talking about. An idea popped into his head,

"Like this" he would pause, narrowing his concentration to his breath and his core where his magick burned, he pulled it up through his throat before blowing a small bit of fire from his maw.

Winnie watched as the expression changed on the male's features. It was a crude but humorous look to something far more admirable. She saw wonder in his face and for some reason it tickled her around the edges of her heart. The feeling brought a smile to her lips and a softness to her eyes. He seemed to like these dragon things and when his eyes raised to the sky so did hers. Her eyes searching the skies as if she'd find one above them right now but when he spoke she realized her was speaking in either memory or just imagination. Either way she didn't mind and half the things he said she didn't know about. The jumbled mess of a beast popped into her mind but it was most definitely not the dragon he was picturing. Instead her version looked more like a turtle with a black shell and odd horns upon its head. The horns resembling the ones on this wolfer's head and instead of wings, it had huge flowing fins on either side of its body to lift it into the sky.

Slowly she let her head fall from the sky and noticed he was looking at her already. A soft blush fell under her fur and she couldn't help but look away but as she did his features seemed to light up again just a tiny bit and he spoke like he was going to show her something. She waited for a moment and tilted her head, her body still floating easily along the surface like a lily pad in a pond. Winnie's ears perked as she saw something happening in his throat, at first it looked like a bulge was trying to force its way out of him but once it did the sparkly stuff set all of her brain ablaze with excitement. Just as quickly as the fire appeared, Winnie pushed forward out of the water so that half of her was on the rock with him and the other still hanging off the edge. The water of course coming with her and dowsing the rock they were on but her eyes wer set on the flame and her was face mere inches away from him. She made some sputtering excited noises and watched it till the flame dispersed and asked him with all the excitement in the whole. "Again again. Again!" She whined and pulled her entire body to sit in front of him like a good little puppy wanting a treat.
