Sage wanted to try something. A potentially dangerous and bad something. Like a child hiding from their mother, Sage skittered around the edges of the trees that lined Lake Saari. Every so often he’d collect a dry branch and hurry with it over to his small collection, picking up clumps of dried pine needles and leaves along the way. He had piled everything near the water’s edge, finding a spot where the ice had receded and left the frigid water to lap at the shore. Satisfied with his hoard, the willowy male began the careful action of stacking all of his materials into a cone shape: smaller items in the middle surrounded by the sticks on the outside. He paused and looked around him, very much so trying and failing to hide the potentially foolish thing he was about to do. He had chosen Lake Saari because it was known to be less popular than its sister waters, but still Sage felt the need to check his surroundings.

Still paranoid but feeling a bit silly being so secretive, Sage stopped glancing around and instead fished around in one of his pouches before removing an item with a pleased hum and little wiggle of excitement. Within his paws was an incredibly clear piece of quartz, a near perfect circle with opposing sides cut flat. Sage had worked on it relentlessly for days now, determined to remove from the quartz all impurities and smooth the sides until there was neither bump nor chip interrupting the smooth planes. Now, he only had to figure out how to properly get his idea to work. The green speckled male lifted the crystal, angling it left and right while holding it above him and in direct line of the sun. Slowly, ever so slowly, the wood began to char and emit small wisps of smoke; however; that was all it did. Sage’s shoulders slumped before he quickly right himself and tried again, removing most of the sticks and instead focusing on his small pile of tinder.

Success! The focused light from the crystal met tinder and rather quickly a small flame began to consume the needles and leaves. Sage hurriedly placed the crystal back into his satchel before leaping to his feet, body wriggling around in barely suppressed joy. He nudged a few of his smaller sticks into the pile and watched as the fire grew to consume them as well, his rosy eyes wide and captivated. It might have seemed like nothing to an outsider, many wolves could conjure flames from their very being and wasn’t that something to be in awe over, but for Sage this small experiment was incredibly exciting for him. Another thrilled wiggle and Sage plopped himself back onto the shore, attention totally captivated by the tiny dancing flames before him. So entranced in his creation was he that all else became background noise and went unheard, unseen, and unnoticed. @Amant

Amant had decided that today, he would explore the northern lands and scout for herbs. He had neglected, sadly, to bring a piece of hide with him to mark down the locations of the herbs he would discover, which meant he would have to come back. The wolf sighed. At least he could try to remember where things were to the best of his abilities, for now. He was here, after all, and he wasn’t going to waste the trip. The pouch made of animal hide slung across his shoulders carried a few herbs and other healing supplies; it was a modest thing, essential. It needed, however, to be restocked, and the supplies in his den were running low as well.

So on he walked, delicately picking herbs from the ground as he found them with his teeth. While he could have used his Mage Hand, the arcane energy wasn’t the best at picking herbs from where they grew without losing valuable parts of the plants. After they were gathered, certainly, the ability could be used to handle them without worry. The acrid scent of burning plant matter hit his nostrils, then, and Amant picked his head up, ears and deer-like tail standing sharply at attention. The mocha male tucked his latest find away in his pouch, moving carefully towards the smoke.

When he arrived, the mundane’s heart leapt up into his throat. There, dancing gleefully around the fire, was a magicka. They outnumbered his own kind by a great many here in Nidria, so this was not uncommon nor improbable, yet it made his pulse race every time. And this time, as he gazed upon the pastel-colored male, Amant found himself disgusted at his own thoughts.

Oh no, he’s hot!

Here’s the thing; Sage loved working with metals but they were so darn time consuming to manipulate. It took a lot of energy on his part unless the metal was already roughly shaped, and the probability of that naturally occurring was so incredibly low that there was no point in wishful thinking. But his little fire could change that. If the willowy male could find a way to create a much larger scale of his fire that burned hot enough, he could melt any metal down and much more easily shape it using his spell. That was the method to his current madness. Brain still deeply settled onto one track; Sage rose back to his feet to begin searching for larger sticks to add to his firepit. Or, that was the plan until rosy hues locked onto the stranger standing in the tree line.

A brief look of surprise crossed his face before a blinding smile graced his features instead, the pastel bohemian entirely welcoming and charmed by the idea of meeting a new companion. Small fire temporarily forgotten, Sage took a few steps towards the newcomer to better see him and couldn’t stop the wag of his long tail if he tried. What a treat it was to meet all of these wolves with such amazing features and lovely horns decorating their crowns, Sage was grateful to be able to come face to face with such unique wolves of all shapes and sizes. Sage was not entirely consumed by his need to make a friendly acquaintance; he did notice the definitely not cheerful disposition his current company displayed. Sage would assume he had merely caught the other by surprise and go from there, still being nothing but smiles but also keeping his distance so as not to crowd the other. A gentle, “hello stranger” left his lips, voice full of warmth as he beamed at the other.
