The ass-kicking he received from the Black Forest left him especially famished. Black Hat wasn't a beach wolf, so he limped his way inland in search of something to tide him over. Sand slowly transitioned to soil as he entered the Pine Barrens, and he shook his paws out. Of course, some granules of sand remained trapped betwixt his toes. How irritating. Grumbling something unpleasant, the scent of a rabbit reached him. Black Hat's demeanor shifted, ears forward and eyes dilated. Drool pooled in his mouth, collecting on his snaggleteeth. It dripped down to the ground in long strands as he began to stalk towards it until the unsuspecting creature was in view. It sat in a meadow, grooming its sensitive ears and checking the surroundings for monsters like him.

Wisps of black mist spread into a thick sheet, enveloping the meadow. Like a panther, he sneaked towards his prey on quiet paws. It was on the alert now, perplexed by the sudden change in weather. But the little morsel could not see the danger that lurked nearby. Black Hat pounced, swiftly ending the creature's life. The fog faded away as his wisps returned to him, seemingly pleased in having aided him. He wished the rabbit hadn't died so quickly, wanting to have twisted fun torturing it before it passed. But he was just glad to get something in him. Lying down, he began to tear into his meal.

The feeling of fatigue rubbed on the azure eyes of a shady figure who grimaced and huffed lightly. Being in relatively new lands, the male was always on edge, wary and on-guard which drained on his energy as he barely did more than cat-napped. Another day, another new area of land and many scents to try and comprehend.

Arulian moved through the grass with silence, his black form flitting through the tree with ease; his light body travelling with little effort. Above his head, a glowing ring of light that some call a halo was a tell-tale give away when it came to the male's presence, but fortunately to him much of the prey he had encountered were transfixed with the halo long enough for the male to get within striking distance.

Right now Arulian didn't know what was of more importance, feeding or finding somewhere to get a decent rest. Both were pretty equal, but hunting whilst tired could end up with a message and potential disastrous ending; so sleep it was.

The long tail of the male dragged behind him snagging on foliage as he went and occasionally pulling on the hairs to the point of mild pain, but he ignored them. Something else had his attention now.

The light around him started to change dramatically and a dark fog peculiarly rolled through the trees. Anxiety lanced through the onyx hued wolf; he froze, head whipping around, ears pricked and straining. 'What the fuck..?' he thought to himself inhaling deeply.

Just a tangled map of scents, none of which stood out much. As the light dimmed, the endless pools of blue brightened and began to glow like his crown, the more anxious the male got, the brighter they glowed.

'Blood!' an unmistakable scent across the board. If Arulian had pupils they would be dilating and contracting, however, he did not, instead, his muzzle tensed and drew back. The hunger that the predator was forcing down rose to the surface, knocking out the feeling of anxiety.

Stalking towards the scent and deeper into the twitling tendrils of the dark fog, Arulian felt a sense of power that he didn't feel in a long time. -He hadn't hunted in a while, so this could have just been an adrenaline rush.

Within seconds the black missed seeped away and light flooded the lands once more; the change stunning Arulian causing a startling bark to leave him. "What...?" he grumbled aloud in confusion.

Black Hat's ears flattened in distaste at the sound of someone's befuddlement nearby. His head whipped around to glare at the dark stranger. "What?" He snapped back. What was the problem here? He found nothing to be confused about, and he didn't like being gawked at while he ate. At least the man likely wasn't planning to snatch his kill from him, seeing as he just waltzed up and had no earthly idea as to what the hell was going on. That left Black Hat irked, but not defensive.

Since the nitwit was just standing there, he took the time to analyze him. Oddly, the man's eyes lacked pupils, leaving Black Hat wondering whether he could see or not; that would at least explain his strange behavior. He stood far taller than himself, with a deep barrel chest and overall lithe yet muscular physique. Thick scales armored the fronts of his legs, which made them less of an ideal target despite their lankiness. An angelic halo hovered above his head, and it glowed faintly, as did his eyes. He could sense clear as day that this stranger controlled light, which could be troublesome for him if things turned ugly, especially considering that he certainly outweighed him. Analysis complete, Black Hat kept that tucked away at the back of his mind.

As things resumed to a normal luminance, the sound of someone echoing Arulian's question pulled a low growl from him. A couple of seconds of searching revealed a dark grey scruffy-looking wolf with an unusual appearance glaring.

Arulian's spine tightened and he shifted to stand with his back straight and head elevated. Remaining silent for a few moments, both male's appraised each other, neither seeming aggressive towards the other, more aware.

Arulian smirked and chuckled. "Apologies. I was on my way to seek shelter for the night when the scent of blood pulled me here." The blue speckled depths of the onyx male's eyes glittered as his lips pulled slightly. "I have no interest in your prey, Sir." He was hungry, but the 4-year-old knew all too well that stealing another's prey was wrong.

Around them, a gentle breeze picked up fine particles of sand, and Arulian snorted out a sharp breath to avoid inhalation. He then dipped his head and took a step back to show he was not intent on harming the fellow male, nor taking his prey.

Arulian had been alone for quite some time, so this was the first proper interaction he had had, so he was not going to push his luck. For all he knew, this wolf could help him find shelter and prey. Stubbornness prevailed, and the brute held strong to his method of never introducing himself first.

Black Hat became convinced the man was looking for a scrap when he heard him emit a rumbling growl. He tensed when the stranger turned to face him, preparing for impact -- but it never came. Instead, the other man held his gaze, and then he apologized. Black Hat lowered his belly to the ground again, though he wouldn't totally let his guard down, especially not in his sorry state. A grunt was his only reply. The wind picked up, tossing granules of sand in his face. Black Hat shielded his eyes and shook out his fur.

"Gah, blasted sand. I hate the coast," He grumbled. At least this fellow had manners, that took the edge off of his bad mood; but a dull knife was still a knife. "I could use a place to rest, myself." Just talking about it brought on a wave of soreness through his tender muscles, and his lids suddenly weighed a thousand pounds. Black Hat wasn't one to gripe or show weakness, but if this stranger could make himself useful in some way, that was obviously a plus in his book. Besides, it wasn't like his injuries were a secret.

A brisk shake dislodged some of the tan grains that clung to Arulian's dark fur; he didn't want them to embed further in and cause him a world of itch. Having sand between his toes was bad enough, but it was unavoidable.

To Arulian's amusement, the scruffy wolf also seemed irked by the minute grains which felt like stones at times. Humming in docile agreement, the raven-hued wolf took a moment to appraise the fellow wolf, taking in his variations of greys and the hint of brown that was dashed across the chest and flank. Then there was the scarred left eye which was red, assuming not by nature, but from trauma, where the other eye was a silvery-white colour.

Not wanting to seem like he was staring, Arulian caught himself and shifted his gaze to the trees around them. "Er, have you finished your meal?" Arulian asked as a distraction, although it wasn't one because he was hungry himself. The lingering scent of blood drew a low gurgle from his abdomen and he cursed inwardly, shifting.

"I'm new to the area, alas I do not know my way around." An honest point that could give leverage to the fellow male, but still, there was little tension between the two.

He felt the man's cerulean gaze glide over him, confirming that he wasn't blind after all. Being the utter narcissist he was, Black Hat took this as attraction to his handsome physique. The stranger abruptly glanced away then, but he wasn't about to let that go, especially not after the man's poor attempt at shifting the topic to something he could easily answer for himself. Black Hat cracked a wry grin.

"Oh come now, don't be bashful. I'd sneak a peek too if I stumbled upon a gentleman this dashing, I don't mind," He purred, voice taking on a honeyed tone despite its typically hoarse texture. He'd let up after that though, unless this stranger mustered the guts to take things a step further. If he was the type to do flings, Black Hat certainly wouldn't object. But his shyness led him to believe this wasn't the case. Pity.

The young man switched topics again, and he allowed it. "Well you're in luck, because you've just stumbled upon a man who's been all over Nidria." That didn't mean he knew the location of every last nook and cranny to sleep in, but that was an easy task.

The longer Arulian spent assessing the male, he could tell that he was not likely to harm him, and didn't seem like he had much effort or energy to do so either. Inhaling a long smooth breath, Aru breathed out calmly, quirking a brow at the black and grey wolf as he spoke his next quip.

Swallowing a chuckle of uncertainty, the obsidian male reclined into a seated position, curling his long tail around his rump and paws. Pointedly not responding to the male's comment about being dashing, he once more turned his glittering blue gaze on the woodland around them, pausing to train his hearing to listen for any other animals in the close vicinity. As he did this, Arulian's breathing slowed and his eyes hooded while his body calmed and relaxed to the sounds of the wind rustling the leaves and birds squawking in the trees, as well as the chittering of smaller forest creatures. 'Mm, food.' the thought brought Arulian back to the current.

"Hmm..." Arulian purred. "If you don't mind some company, I'd appreciate a tour and pointers as safe places to rest and good areas to hunt." Not knowing if the male was offering his services or just making a point, Arulian was making a point of his own. "Hunting being the first thing." his words were reflected by the dull gurgle of his digestive system announcing it's a displeasure to the lack of nutrients in the recent days.

The 4-year-old was being out of character with trusting a stranger off the bat, but he had no choice. If this scarred male were to turn on him, Arulian would have to learn his lesson, should he get out alive. "Surely you wouldn't leave lil 'ol me out here all alone?" he chirped in a playful tone with a hint of challenge.
